Avatars of War - Master Pathfinder

A dwarf with crossbow for my Mordheim warband. I think the Avatars of War model is a bit massive for a normal thunderer, but well, maybe he'll be a hero someday. And besides that, I like the miniature. It's a great example for the grunty characteristic of the dwarven race.

Tutorial - building wargaming terrain using foamboard

I think many of you have allready heard about wargaming terrain made out of foamboard, but don't know how easy good looking terrain can be build. Therefore I've took some pics during the builing process from my latest project. I wanted to make a small ruin for our Mordheim lustria campaing, although it would make a nice bit of terrain for Freebooters Fate, Warmachine or other fantasy based skirmisher too.

Used materials:

-          Plasiccard
-          Foamboard
-          Wood glue
-          Coffee stirrer
-          Cork
-          Filler
-          Tinting paint
-          Two sorts of static gras
-          Aquariumplants

Tools:

-          Ballpen
-          Carpet Knife
-          Kitchenfoil
-          Brushes

Verwendete Materialien:

-          Plastikkarton

-          Styrodur (Dämmstoffplatten)

-          Holzleim

-          Kaffeerührstäbchen

-          Kork

-          Spachtelmasse

-          Abtönfarben

-          Zweierlei Grasstreu

-          Aquariumspflanzen

 Verwendetes Werkzeug:

-          Kugelschreiber

-          Scharfes Cuttermesser

-          Alufolie

Step 1:

First I cut out a base for my piece of terrain out of plasticcard. Than I used the carpet knife to make a basement and walls for the ruin and glued several pieces of foamboard to a high stone formation. For further stability I put toothpicks into each stoneblock. The immersion of the bricks and stoneheets of the floor were carved into the foamboard with a ballpen and I gave the stonewalls some more structure using a ball of kitchenfoil.

Next I spread wood glue all over the empty places of the base and glued small shreds of cork and lots of sand onto the plasticcard base. Now the whole thing had to dry over night.

Schritt 1:

Step 2:

Step two is a quite boring basecoat of the whole terrain. Stones and Walls got a black basecoat of tinting paint and the earth got a basecoat in dark brown. Let the color dry before you start with dry brushing.

Schritt 2:

Step 3:

Rocks, Walls and Stonesheets were dry-brushed in 3 steps, using darkgrey, grey and light grey. Though light grey was only used on the egdes. The earth was apinted similar, just using darkbrown as first color, follwed by brown and light brown. The result looked like this:

Schritt 3:

Step 4:

I mixed water and wood glue and spread the sticky liquid everywhere I wanted pasture. I used two sorts of static gras to get a natural looking base.

Schritt 4:

Step 5:

At last I glued some flowers and tuft of gras from Mininatur on the base, added some aquarium plants and painted soft glazes of brown onto the rocks and the floor of the ruin. And well that's it.

Schritt 5:

Lustria terrain - small ruin

Just finished a piece of terrain. It's a little ruin for a Mordheim Lustria campain, Freebooters Fate or Warhammer Fantasy. I made some pictures for a step by step tutorial for those of you who'd like to build something similar. I'll publish the tutorial this week.

Infinity Nomads Daktari & Zondbot finished

I have finished the Daktari and her Zondbot finally. I tried to pain them in a Deus Ex like style and I think they look great like this. Dunno what to paint next, but there is a sad empire mage waiting for colour for about half a year. I think I'll work on him next.

Zondbot WiP

Painting this little fellow in a yellow scheme was a good decision! I love the look and now I'm sure that the next nomads will be painted the same way. The only thing I still don't know, weather to buy premade bases or to make some myself. I think I'll visit my local dealer an see if there are any bases I like. If not building some should't be the problem.
